A NORTH East PR guru renowned for his charity work has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London.
Former ITV Tyne Tees journalist Richard Salkeld is a familiar face in Newcastle due to high-profile roles with train operators and his endeavours to promote the region nationally.
The 39-year-old also volunteers with several charitable organisations including the Royal Television Awards (RTS), which helps young people secure careers in the creative industries.
Richard, currently Head of Communications and Partnerships for the Newcastle-based train operator Lumo, was given the prestigious accolade at a ceremony held in the historic Guildhall in the heart of London on Friday.
He has joined the ranks of celebrities and historical figures including Sir Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, Sir Lenny Henry, Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Chris Hoy and Rachel Riley, who have also been awarded the Freedom. The event was conducted by the Clerk to the Chamberlain Tiphaine Le Bian alongside Jason Groves from the Company of Communicators.

HEALTHY START
January is the right time for a reset. Nothing extreme, just food to help you feel good. Think fresh flavours, colourful plates and meals as nourishing as they are comforting. Soothing soups, vibrant salads and a spicy curry are on my menu plus, of course, the odd selection box chocolate which needs eating up!
