Barbers back in business after chimney collapse

NORTHUMBERLAND barber has reopened in a new temporary premises weeks after a chimney collapse forced the business's closure.

On July 30, Jill Armstrong was cutting a child’s hair when the chimney fell into the upper floors of the building where Bob's Barbers has been located for almost 30 years on Hallstile Bank in Hexham.

No one was in the upper floors of the property at the time and there were no reported injuries.

However, Jill was unable to access her shop, whilst Project Escape on the upper floors confirmed on Facebook it would close “for the foreseeable future” due to significant damage.

She has since signed a six-month lease at a unit on nearby St Mary's Chare and is now open for business.
