Ballard the hero as promotion dream still alive

SUNDERLAND will meet Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium at the end of this month.

The Black Cats knocked out Coventry City in the semi-final in dramatic circumstances last night to move just one step away from the Premier League.
Dan Ballard scored a stoppage time header to level the score at 1-1, sparking wild scenes as Sunderland won the tie 3-2 on aggregate. The Black Cats had been forced to extra-time after Ephron Mason-Clark levelled the aggregate score inside 90 minutes.
However, after a colossal performance in defence, Ballard scored his first goal since December 21 to send the Stadium of Light into ruptures.
They will now meet Sheffield United at Wembley in over a weeks time.
Sunderland won the last fixture between the two sides at the Stadium of Light on New Year's Day.
The Blades edged out Regis Le Bris' side at Bramall Lane back in November 1-0.
