SPEAKMAN SALUTES DUO
SPORTING director Kristjaan Speakman has praised the achievements of Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg after the young duo were recognised at the 2025 EFL Awards.
Bellingham was named in the EFL Championship Team of the Season and crowned Young Player of the Season, while Rigg also earned a nomination for his break-out campaign in red-and-white.
The 19-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the Stadium of Light, playing a key role in helping the Black Cats secure a fourth-place finish and a spot in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.
He has established himself as a standout performer, scoring four goals and providing three assists in league action, which also earned him a place in the Championship Team of the Season.
His season included some unforgettable moments, including a crucial late winner at Swansea City that secured a remarkable comeback victory, a decisive goal against Norwich City, and a stunning long-range strike against Derby County.
He also scooped December's PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Month award, further recognition of his outstanding form throughout the campaign.
