GAVIN HAVERY is blown away by the musical Hamilton, which has begun its Sunderland run
-

A STELLAR cast belting out breathtakingly strong performances is currently bringing this modern day classic musical to life and blowing the minds of North East audiences. If you go to see only one show in the region this summer, it needs to be Hamilton.
With an innovative blend of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and Broadway tunes, it tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, and how he rose from poverty to become one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.
Inspired by Ron Chernow’s acclaimed political biography, it is seen through modern eyes, told with today’s street slang and delivered with passion and energy by a diverse cast.
Sublimely written by Lin Manuel-Miranda, the musical and lyrical genius behind Moana and Encanto, the UK tour is currently playing on Wearside.
It is largely faithful to the film version many will be familiar with but in the ornate auditorium of Sunderland Empire with a live orchestra it becomes so much more immersive and intimate.
