£2m education facilities boost

THE Department for Education has announced nearly £2m of funding for higher education facilities in County Durham.

The £88.5m national package includes the University of Durham and New College Durham. The aim is for the institutions to open more cutting-edge facilities, which will in turn boost skills and growth.

Nationally, this money will be used by 60 higher education providers across the country to support areas like green energy and economic growth.

The University of Durham will receive £1,797,832 to develop seven projects across three key areas - creative industries and digital media; chemical automation and sustainable materials; engineering and clean energy technologies.

This investment includes the development of new facilities for digital image capture, immersive technologies, and AI-driven analysis.
