10-year-plan for NHS will 'end postcode lottery'

A GOVERNMENT minister said the people of the North East should have confidence that the NHS 10-year-plan will “end the postcode lottery” and ensure high-quality healthcare gets to those who need it.

The landmark plan was published on Thursday and features a range of ideas designed to, the Government says, bring about three “shifts” which it hopes will “rewire” the NHS.

Health Minister Karin Smyth said people in our region should be reassured by the plan - and highlighted what she said were a range of changes that would end a situation where “those in greatest need often receive the worst quality healthcare”.

The plan’s publication has been welcomed in many quarters, but not uniformly.
