Warrants issued for immediate arrest of Prasanna Ranaweera and Milroy Perera

Mahara Magistrate Kanchana de Silva on Monday issued open warrants for the immediate arrest of former State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera and former Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Milroy Perera for evading court.

The two are accused of evading court in a case involving the alleged preparation of forged documents related to a land in Kiribathgoda that had been vested with the government for development purposes.

Magistrate de Silva also ordered the relevant banks and the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic to provide the CID with reports on the bank accounts and registered vehicles of the suspects.

The CID made the request, based on information that Ranaweera and Perera had approximately 30 bank accounts. The court was asked to issue directives to obtain details of funds and assets in these accounts, including any cheques. Similarly, the Department of Motor Traffic was ordered to provide a report on vehicles registered under the suspects' names, as part of preliminary steps toward asset freezing.
