Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and Tamil film star Kamal Haasan will be the party's candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls to be held on June 19, the party's executive committee decided on Wednesday (May 28, 2025).

Tamil actor-politician Kamal Haasan to enter Rajya Sabha

Tamil Nadu's ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) had allotted one Rajya Sabha seat to the MNM during the negotiations before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

The MNM did not contest the Lok Sabha polls and was instead given the Rajya Sabha seat.

The MNM executive committee members also sought the support of the DMK and other alliance partners for Haasan

The has announced three candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu. One of the seats has been allocated to the MNM.

The other two candidates selected by DMK are advocate P Wilson and SR Sivalingam.
