When reading the comments made by various individuals on YouTube and in newspapers about our past leaders, we as a nation should feel ashamed. A section of our people seems to wholeheartedly believe in the JVP’s so-called “75-year curse.”
They fail to realize how much progress this nation has made—reaching a reasonably satisfactory and comfortable level—despite the immense damage caused by both the LTTE and the JVP.
The LTTE fought for a separate state and, in doing so, had clear motives to destroy what it saw as the “other state.” But the JVP, which claimed to fight for a “better country,” had no hesitation in killing innocent and law-abiding citizens.
