Sri Lanka find consolation in impressive feats of Tharanga and Sumeda

Throwers Rumesh Tharanga and Sumeda Ranasinghe reached the men's javelin throw final ranked among the top four performers at the end of the qualifying rounds on the penultimate day of the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea on Friday.

Competing in qualification group 1, Tharanga was second only to Arshad Nadeem as he cleared 83.77 metres to be ranked second in that group behind the Olympic gold medalist.
The Pakistani cleared a distance of 86.34 metres Nadeem and Tharanga were the only throwers to clear the 80 metres mark in group 1.
