Oil prices drop amid over growing concerns of supply surplus

The Island

|

October 21, 2025

Oil prices declined on Monday (20) under pressure from fears of a global supply surplus, while escalating trade tensions between the United States and China increased concerns about economic slowdown and weak energy demand, Iraqi news agency Sada reported yesterday (20) Brent crude futures dropped approximately 0.3%, reaching $61.09 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures fell 0.3%, settling at $57.35, erasing the gains recorded on Friday.

Both benchmark crudes recorded a decline of more than 2% last week, marking the third consecutive weekly drop, which is partly attributed to the International Energy Agency's forecasts of increased supply surplus by 2026.

Beating jetlag

Long-distance air travel often brings with it the unwelcome companion of jetlag, that groggy state when the body clock refuses to adjust to a new time zone. It is the result of a mismatch between your internal rhythm and the external environment. While some travellers shrug it off in a day or two, others find it spoils the first part of their trip. Overcoming jetlag requires a bit of planning, awareness, and patience with your body’s natural limits.
