In a significant boost to Sri Lanka's agri-tech ambitions, the Lotus Group of Companies has launched the nation's first private, export-oriented tissue culture laboratory, positioning the island to compete in the high-value global market for disease-free planting materials.

The state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated last week at the Group's Seeds Farm in Dalukgolla, Nikaweratiya, marks a strategic pivot towards biotechnology-driven agriculture. The event was attended by Deepal Udukumbura, Vice President — Agri Business of Hatton National Bank, alongside senior government officials, who collectively hailed the venture as a milestone for the sector.
