Japan-SL defence cooperation takes new turn with UAV deployment here

Sri Lanka Navy will receive training in the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) by the Japanese.

Authoritative sources said that though nothing has been finalised yet, in terms of the Official Security Assistance (OSA) programme, finalised during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's visit, the country would benefit from this initiative.

According to the Japanese Embassy here, under the OSA programme two types of state-of-the-art Japanese-made UAVs would be provided for monitoring, surveillance and disaster relief. The project is expected to contribute to enhancing security of Sri Lanka, maintaining and strengthening regional stability, the Japanese Embassy said.
