Illicit liquor distilleries raided in Udawalawe National Park: Wildlife Dept. intensifies investigations

In a major operation carried out on 05 June, officers attached to the Panahaduwa Wildlife Office raided two illicit liquor manufacturing sites within the Udawalawe National Park, near the Udawalawe Reservoir, following a tip-off received by the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

According to a senior official from the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), the raiding team uncovered some 800 litres of rotgut (a fermented mixture used in illicit alcohol production), which was subsequently destroyed after samples were collected for further investigation.
