Duckett, Smith power England to comfortable win
The Island
|June 05, 2025
England completed a 3-0 sweep of the ODI series over West Indies with a comprehensive 7-wicket win in the rain-affected game in London on Tuesday, scaling down a revised target of 246 in just 29.4 overs.
-
Openers Jamie Smith (64 off 28) and Ben Duckett (58 off 46) set the platform for the chase, while Jos Buttler (46* off 20) provided the finishing touches after a collective bowling effort earlier in the evening had restricted the visitors to just 251/9 in a 40-over-a-side affair.
In a first, London traffic on a rainy day delayed West Indies' arrival at the Oval and hence the toss, before the game faced multiple interruptions. Put in to bat first in the conditions, West Indies then suffered a top-order collapse to be reduced to 28/3 inside seven overs. Sherfane Rutherford (70 off 71) and Keacy Carty (29 off 35) led a slow recovery, putting on a 62-run stand in the 11 overs that followed.
