'Basis laid to hike contribution of digital economy to local GDP'

The government has laid the foundation to increase the digital economy's contribution to the GDP by 15 percent by 2030, says Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne.
"At present only three percent is contributed to the GDP and plans are afoot to activate that target and serve it without any operational delays, he said while addressing a panel discussion, organized by the Sri LankaAustralia- New Zealand Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber Of Commerce under the theme, "Accelerating Sri Lanka Digital Economy". The event was held at Cinnamon Lake Hotel last week.
Australian High Commissioner Paul Stevens and New Zealand High Commission David Pine were present for the panel discussion. The Deputy Minister also said that the new ministry has taken the initiative to invest in digital infrastructure.
