Scouts plant 1,000 trees in a single day

AT the weekend, more than 100 West Yorkshire Scouts took part in a huge challenge to plant a thousand trees in just one day.

Throughout autumn, volunteers have been out in full force to help grow Mellor and Molly Carr Woods - important pockets of ancient woodland beside Castle Hill.

At the end of October, 50 of the Scouts’ youngest recruits aged four to six began collecting fallen acorns. The aptly named ‘Squirrels’ used their acorns to plant the first seeds of the season.
