Open invite to festive fun

KIRKLEES is ready to get into the Christmas spirit as two big events are scheduled for Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

The two towns will be brought to life through a series of free events including light shows and live performances, marking the run-up to Christmas with festive fun for all the family. In Huddersfield, families can enjoy workshops, crafts and performances throughout the day, followed by lights and a festive “fire garden” next to the Parish Church.

Meanwhile in Dewsbury, Santa will be making an appearance as an arcade unit is transformed into a grotto, and performances will take place on a music stage and around the town. Visitors can also get creative through interactive workshops.

A traditional Christmas market will be held in each town, offering festive food and drink from local traders.

Here, we're rounding up exactly what's going to be going on this festive season.

The first event from Kirklees Council, in partnership with Huddersfield BID, will be Christmas in Huddersfield on Saturday, November 29. During the day, from 11am to 4.30pm, a ‘Winter Worlds’ event will take place in the Piazza area of town including:

A ride-on steam train

Skating

Face-painting

Creative workshops with West Yorkshire Print Workshop, Thread Republic and MakerWorld

Live performances from local children’s theatre company Tell Tale Hearts, as well as Poppy Poppins and Huddersfield Samba
