MUM SPEAKS OUT AFTER PREDATOR SENTENCED
A HUDDERSFIELD mum has said she is "petrified" for her daughter's future after she was groomed and sexually abused by sick predator Gary Lewin.
Lewin bought the teenager jewellery and a phone before he abused her, and prosecutor Leila Taleb told Leeds Crown Court how he sent a “plethora” of messages to the girl “which resembled more of a romantic relationship and he was sexually possessive and overly affectionate.” Ms Taleb said the girl’s mother had “suspected something” and had installed cameras in the house, which recorded an incident.
Lewin was jailed on Monday after admitting a catalogue of offences including sexual activity with a child and inciting a child to take part in sexual activity. He must serve 12 years in custody and a one-year extended licence period.
After his sentencing, the mother of the girl - who must not be identified for legal reasons - told the Examiner she is “petrified” for her daughter, who has not had any support in relation to the “trauma” she has suffered at Lewin’s hands. “I feel sick to my stomach,” she said. “I haven't slept. I can’t put into words what we have been through and the pieces I have had to pick up... He can apply for parole after 12 years. How can someone who got 14 years for possession of a firearm and drugs only get 12 years for doing this?”
