NEIGHBOURS RUSHED TO HELP VICTIM OF HORRIFIC ATTACK

- By ANDREW ROBINSON

'I heard gunshots and then screaming'

NEIGHBOURS bravely rushed to help a seriously injured man after he was shot and stabbed in a Huddersfield street.

The 27-year-old victim was shot in the back — suffering pellet wounds - and was stabbed in the leg while sitting in a car on a driveway outside a house in Springwood Hall Gardens. The car was also damaged in the shooting.

His leg injury has been described as serious but not life-threatening by West Yorkshire Police who are now hunting three suspects who fled in a black car.

Neighbours have expressed their shock and concern following Thursday’s shooting, which happened at around 5.35pm.

A woman said she heard two shots and initially thought it was fireworks.

Her son said: “I heard gunshots and then screaming.”

Another neighbour came out and used towels to stem the man’s bleeding, applying them to his injured leg, as he screamed “help, help, I need help”.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: “A woman first aider saved his life. She was shaking and saying ‘I want to save his life.”
