Consultation on windfarm plan

FIRM HAS REDUCED TURBINE NUMBER AFTER CONCERNS OVER MOORLAND IMPACT

A CONSULTATION period began yesterday, seeking responses to a company's contentious plans to build a multi-turbine windfarm on a stretch of Yorkshire moorland.

Calder Wind Farm Ltd (CWFL) has announced a timetable and a reduction in the number of turbines through promotional leaflets sent to residents in Calderdale.

The company's proposals, which could see dozens of wind turbines installed on Walshaw Moor, above Hebden Bridge, have already caused concern about potential impacts. Initially, when the company announced last year that it was preparing a scoping report for Calderdale Council, the local planning authority, 65 turbines were planned, which would have made it the largest in England.

However, according to the consultation details released today, the proposed number has now been reduced to 41 turbines, along with a battery energy storage system plant. The six-week non-statutory consultation will close on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, and CWFL is inviting the public to learn more and help shape the final proposal.
