Warm spaces opening after £160k in funding

ORGANISATIONS RECEIVE CASH TO OPEN DOORS TO CITY RESIDENTS
PLYMOUTH City Council is using £160,000 of government funding to provide welcoming, warm spaces to city residents from this week and throughout the winter months.
More than 50 organisations are receiving cash to open their doors with many also offering extra amenities such as free hot drinks and wi-fi, activities and workshops, and kitchen space to cook food.
The money is from the £4 million the council has received from the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund designed to support residents with the cost of living.
Cllr Chris Penberthy, cabinet member for housing, cooperative development and communities, said: “We've been running the welcoming spaces initiative in Plymouth since the winter of 2022, and this year we have chosen to invest more than ever to help a wider range of community spaces open to the public during the colder months.
