Unused Hayman is next to emerge from the Academy

THERE was anew name in Plymouth Argyle’s matchday squad for the Vertu Trophy tie against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night as first-year apprentice Sam Hayman who was named among the seven substitutes for the Southern Group B game.

- By CHRIS ERRINGTON

The teenage defender did not get onto the pitch to make his debut, but after 16-year-old Seb Campbell became Argyle's youngest ever scorer with a goal in the previous Vertu Trophy group game - the 6-2 home win against Tottenham Hotspur U21s at Home Park in September - it was still another notable night for the club’s academy.

Seventeen-year-old Tegan Finn captured a lot of attention by scoring twice and also contributing a couple of assists against Spurs, so the Vertu Trophy has been used to help develop some of Argyle’s best young prospects, of which Hayman is the latest to be called up by Pilgrims’ boss Tom Cleverley.
