Triple tiebreak triumph for May duo in thriller

Bob Verey, Andy Weymouth, Jose Rojas and Alan Mayes

All three sets went to tie breaks, with consistent rallies from all players with lots of well placed winning shots. A lot of great tennis was on show with the father and son Matthew and Simon winning 6-5 6-5 6-5

Kevin Wikins and Miki Booth took on father and son Simon and Matthew May in another all Plympton encounter. The first set went to a tiebreak with Kevin and Miki winning it 6-5. The second set saw Miki and Kevin dominating it and Simon and Matthew found themselves too far behind to catch up, losing it 6-2. In the third set Simon and Matthew were leading 4-2, but Kevin and Miki took the set winning the next four games.

The top two pairs clashed as Brian and Jack Morgan took on Dave Gale and Simon Dixon. The Morgans both served solidly and took the first two sets. Dave and Simon battled back and won the first three games of the final set before the father and son's consistency and ability to always get the ball back eventually meant they won the match 6-2 6-0 6-4.

A thoroughly entertaining match took place between Jon Jacobs and Rich Rawlings playing against Pete Ireland and Andy Regan. The first set was a real tussle with each pair playing some sublime shots, Jon and Rich eventually taking it 6-5 after a tense tiebreak. Pete and Andy came storming back and took the second set 6-2. The deciding set saw some great tennis with Jon varying his shots, Rich covering the court well with good back hands down the line, Pete with beautiful cross court sliced drop shots and Andy with excellent touch and control at the net. Jon and Rich eventually took the set 6-3 and the win after a real battle of fitness and stamina.

There was a very tight first set when Harry Beveridge and Alec Rickard played Phil Whitby and John Putman. The first set went to a tie break with Harry and Alec taking it 7-3. This gave them the momentum to take the next two sets 6-2 6-1.
