Taking flight anything but plain sailing
The Herald
|October 06, 2025
I'VE just been reading about the world’s longest flights! In December, China Eastern Airlines launch what could be the world’s longest direct journey.
-
A new route between Pudong International airport in China and Ministro Pistarini International in Argentina, which is predicted to take 25.5 hours, with the return leg even longer at a staggering 29 hours! So, you might get to watch the sun rise twice.
Well, to be honest I feel like I've done that on numerous occasions when I've had to catch planes as I just have at silly o'clock in the morning. I don’t care what class you fly, whether its cattle or entitled with bars, beds and plunge pools, it’s not so much the flight itself that gets to me, it’s what you have to endure before you get a sniff of kerosene.
The queueing on the M5 on changeover Saturday in August. Or finding yourself in a shopping centre having been diverted off the M5 in pitch black cos the diversion signs have run out.
Or what about driving round Basingstoke in the wee small hours when they’ve closed the A303.
