Saltram to close over tree felling

MONTEREY PINE HAS A SPLIT IN ITS TRUNK
ONE of Plymouth's most popular nature parks will close down for two days next week as rangers help with the felling of a non-native 80-year-old Monterey Pine tree.
In a social media post, Federico Ghittoni, lead ranger at Saltram and Plymbridge, announced the closure of National Trust site Saltram Park during February 3 and 4.
He explained that the area would have to close to allow for a 120-tonne crane to enter the site and assist with the felling of a giant Monterey Pine tree.
Federico explained that the pine was a non-native species, originally hailing from California and it had developed a large split in its trunk, making it unstable and a potential risk to nearby buildings and the road.
