Saltram culls a third of its dog waste bins

OWNERS of dogs are being told they will have carry their poo bags further after Saltram culled just under a third of dog waste bins to cut costs.

The move has been confirmed by the National Trust who maintain the grand house and parkland for the public to enjoy and it is hoped that dog walkers will recognise the need for such measures to ensure it will remain accessible to visitors.

One reader told The Herald they noticed during a recent visit that a number of dog waste bins had been removed and when they asked volunteers no explanation was forthcoming. The reader feared the loss of the bins “could mean problems in the park with many people and children walking around in the fresh air”.
