Questions raised over new homes
The Herald
|October 03, 2025
QUESTIONS have been asked about how Plymouth city centre's "new town" of 10,000 homes will be paid for.
-
Members of the House of Lords have already set up an inquiry into the Government's announcement that it wants a dozen new towns, including in Plymouth, built to solve a housing crisis.
And already, the Lords' Built Environment Committee is warning that the projects will need "significant" Government funding. It also wants answers about how and when the homes will be delivered.
The Homes England quango has already bought the former Salvation Army Congress Hall, Mayflower House and the ex-Good Companions site, in Plymouth city centre, and is pumping £20m into the reboot of the Civic Centre.

A NICE RIDE... SHAME ABOUT THE ANXIETY
FOR most bikers, the sound is a visceral part of the riding pleasure, whether it’s the heartbeat of a single, the syncopated throb of a V-twin, the sweet whine of a triple, or the unmitigated howl of an inline four at full chat.
