WOMEN GO THROUGH TO ROUND THREE AFTER BEATING GWALIA

- By LEXIE SANDERS

PLYMOUTH Argyle Women powered their way into the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a confident 2-0 win over Gwalia United at Home Park - a tie defined by a devastating three-minute brace from Phoebie Poole and punctuated by late red-card drama in stoppage time.

Head coach Marie Hourihan made no attempt to dress the performance up afterwards but was clear about the main objective:

"The priority today was making sure we're in the draw tomorrow and we've done that," she said.

The draw for the third round was made last night at about 7pm. Unfortunately, that was after the Plymouth herald's deadline for publication.

Argyle were dominant from the outset, sharper in possession, quicker in transition and far more threatening in the final third. Poole's double before the break ultimately put the contest beyond reach, and although the closing moments turned fiery, their progression was never in doubt.
