The Herald
|December 18, 2025
MORE than 3,000 tickets have been snapped up so far for the long awaited Beryl Cook exhibition at The Box in Plymouth.
Tickets are free but guarantee a time slot and are allowing The Box to manage what is expected to be its most popular exhibition in its first five years of existence.
The four-month exhibition entitled 'Pride and Joy' runs from January 24 to May 31 and will be the most extensive display of the beloved Plymouth artist's work to date.
Alongside this will be four life-size 3D sculptures based on her iconic paintings appearing across the city.
Beryl, who died in 2008, was famous for her works, often comical, which pictured people whom she encountered in everyday life, enjoying themselves in pubs, shopping, on holiday and at parties. She was known for her bold colours, larger than life characters and exaggerated forms and paintings which celebrate working-class life and body positivity.
More than 80 works, from iconic paintings to rarely seen treasures from private collections and the Cook family archives, will be on display at The Box, in the city she lived and loved.
