MP calls for long-term fix as lock gates are 'broken again'

PLYMOUTH MP Luke Pollard has called for action following the repeated breaking of lock gates in Sutton Harbour.

Mr Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, has writted to the CEO of the Environment Agency this week calling for urgent action to fix the lock gates and support members of the fishing industry in the city against disruption.

He said that a notice explaining a fault with the outer lock gate, which protects Sutton Harbour, was issued late on Sunday.

Works were scheduled on the pedestrian bridge this week but there is mention of the gates in those communications.

In his letter, Mr Pollard asked Environment Agency CEO Philip Duffy to urgently confirm when the lock gates will be repaired, and what plans the Environment Agency has to support the inshore fleet against the disruption.
