Freedom march part of town's traditions
The Herald
|September 29, 2025
YESTERDAY saw the whole of HMS Raleigh march through the streets of Torpoint, exercising their right to Freedom of the Town.

This right was granted on December 11, 1996 and is now a welcome event in the town's calendar.
Led by the legendary band of the Royal Marines, 350 service personnel marched from Thanckes Park to the Ferry Lanes with flags flying and bayonets fixed. Here, in front of an assembled gathering the Mayor, Councillor Julie Martin, and Base Commander, Captain Jeremy Ussher, reviewed the cadets. Town Clerk, Milly Southworth, read the proclamation.
