ACADEMY GRADUATE DETERMINED TO GRASP THE OPPORTUNITY GIVEN HIM AT HOME PARK

- By CHRIS ERRINGTON

GROWING up as a massive Plymouth Argyle fan a very young Tegan Finn idolised Graham Carey and his ability not only on the ball but to score spectacular goals as well.

Now, still only aged 17, Finn has already taken significant steps towards following in his hero's footsteps at Home Park, and with the potential for a lot more to come from him in a green Pilgrims' shirt.

Finn scored his first two senior goals for Argyle when they thrashed Tottenham Hotspur under-21s 6-2 in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night and the academy graduate also had two assists.

He staked a strong claim for a first England under-18s call-up as he shone in a game against opponents who included two players who have already represented the Three Lions at that age level in Malachi Hardy and Tynan Thompson, while under-19 international Callum Olusesi was also in the Spurs side.

Finn said: "It was a massive moment for me and my family because I have been coming to watch since I was a kid so scoring at Home Park was a really good feeling."

The talented teenager signed a three-year professional contract with Argyle towards the end of August after there had been a lot of speculation that other clubs were interested in him, most notably Nottingham Forest.

Tom Cleverley made it a priority to tie down the future of Finn after he had impressed him during Argyle's preseason training camp in Austria in July and saw the qualities he already had.

That led to Finn committing his future to the Pilgrims. "It was a really easy decision to be fair," he declared. "I spoke with the manager and he said that I would get quite a good opportunity here.
