CAMERAS IN STOKE ONLY RECENTLY SWITCHED ON
PLYMOUTH’S latest 20mph zone came into force two months ago but the speed cameras have only just been switched on, it can be revealed.
Plymouth City Council has said the average speed cameras in Stoke were not activated to give drivers time to get used to the new reduced limit. This was revealed by the council after The Herald asked why a new speed camera had just gone up in Molesworth Road, inside the zone, almost four months after the other cameras were installed.
Initially, 10 cameras were included in plans for the new 20mph zone, but only nine were attached to lamp posts. The council has said the final camera had now been put in place, but did not give a reason for the delay. The local authority has said the cameras will now be made live.
The 20mph speed limit, a reduction from 30mph, was introduced on June 12. A week earlier, the council said that enforcement cameras had been installed and signage and road markings were being put in place, but did not indicate that the cameras would not be operating straight away.
