Creating art from plastic washed up on the beach

OCEAN PLASTIC IS SOURCE FOR JOHN DIXON'S COLOURFUL WORK
TAVISTOCK-BASED John Dixon was visiting a beach when he spotted a blue rope tangled around some black seaweed and loved the colour combination.
He said: "I thought 'this is just art as it is. Nobody has to do anything with this, it's just a piece of art sitting there on the beach.' That then made me think there's lots of this stuff around and maybe I could use it."
That was one of the things which led John to start creating art from the ocean plastic that gets washed up on our beaches, and he collects most of his pieces from Tregantle, which is part of Whitsand Bay, in south east Cornwall.
John and his father like to visit outside of the tourist season and after a storm when they find a lot of items. John said: "Virtually every time we go there we can walk away with two carrier bags each and go away feeling we haven't even touched the surface."
