Council seeks input on its plans for city centre

PLYMOUTH residents are being invited to give their views on how the city centre can be transformed, amid plans to build 10,000 new homes in the area.
This week, Plymouth City Council will begin the next phase of the City Living Framework programme which will set out a “bold vision for how Plymouth's city centre could evolve into a vibrant place to live”, envisaging new homes, “greener streets, lively public spaces and a stronger sense of community”.
Early talks are already underway, with residents sharing views online and through targeted engagement sessions with the Youth Parliament and social housing tenants via Plymouth Community Homes.
The council said the early insights are helping to build a clear picture of what matters to communities, including what should be protected and what could be improved. Now the programme is moving into its first major phase of face-to-face engagement - giving more people the chance to get involved and influence the future of the city centre.
A pop-up City Living hub will be held at Plymouth Central Library, Armada Way, this Friday, July 3, from noon until 6pm. Residents, workers and visitors can drop in, meet master planners, explore ideas and talk to the team shaping the future of the city centre. The following day, from 10am until 4pm, there will be an interactive stall on Armada Way as part of the celebration event to mark completion of the £30 million upgrade of the thoroughfare.
Last year, the council appointed consultants at WSP and will pay them £1 million to come up with a plan on how to fit 10,000 homes into the city centre.
