City woman pleads not guilty to acid attack

A PLYMOUTH woman accused of taking part in the alleged murder of Danny Cahalane has denied the charge during a hearing at Winchester Crown Court.

Ten people were expected to attend the plea and trial preparation at the Hampshire court before Her Honour Judge Angela Morris, the Recorder for Winchester.

During the hearing last week, which prosecutor Joanna Martin KC said would include evidence from telephone data and the use of cryptocurrency, Plymouth woman Jude Hill offered a plea of not guilty to the charge of murder.

Two other men - Abdul-Rasheed Adedoja, Ramarnee Bakas-Sithole and Brian Kalemba, all from London, also offered not guilty pleas to the charge of murder.

A number of pleas were offered during the hearing. The trial has been moved to the Hampshire court due to the number of defendants involved. Seven of those charged are alleged to have participated in an organised crime group with two other named men who have not been arrested by police.

The charge alleges that they were involved in the supplying or storing of drugs and/or were involved in violence or assisting others to commit violence in relation to the enforcement of drug debts.

Danny Cahalane died on May 3 as a result of injuries he sustained during an incident at the front door of his home in Lipson Road, which took place at around 3.55am on Friday, February 21 this year.

It is understood that he had a form of sulphuric acid thrown at him after he opened the door, while his young daughter was asleep upstairs.

The 38-year-old suffered horrific injuries to his face and body and was taken to an undisclosed hospital, where it is understood he underwent more than a dozen operations, sadly in vain.
