AS WAS THE CASE 80 YEARS AGO, THE HOE WILL TAKE CENTRE STAGE
PLYMOUTH is set to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a series of spectacular events and activities on Plymouth Hoe and across the city.
The milestone will be marked with a day filled with remembrance, celebration, and community spirit.
Plymouth played a crucial role during World War Two, serving as a major naval base and embarkation point for troops.
The city endured significant bombing during the Blitz, which led to extensive post-war rebuilding efforts. VE Day on May 8, 1945, marked a moment of relief and celebration for the people of Plymouth, who had shown remarkable resilience and strength throughout the war.
The main event tomorrow will be on Plymouth Hoe from 11.30am with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by a Full Parade of Standards and a Royal Navy Guard, which will include a gun fire from the Royal Citadel. A two-minute silence will take place soon after the flag raising at 12 noon.
