FAMOUS Plymouth TV chef James Tanner has thanked staff at Derriford Hospital for “rebuilding” him after a horrific accident left his pelvis shattered.

James, who runs the Barbican Kitchen with brother Chris Tanner, took to social media to thank doctors, nurses and even the porters at the region's biggest hospital, after revealing he underwent five hours of surgery and 11 days on a ward.

Back home now, the chef also thanked staff at the Southside Street restaurant, his three brothers, including Chris who “picked me up” and found medical help after the accident, and all the well-wishers who have sent him messages.

He said it will be a long road to recovery but vowed he will be back “bigger, better, stronger” and thanked his younger brother Adam, an engineer, for building him “contraptions” to help with his recuperation.

James, however, said the injury has curtailed potential media work - he has appeared in numerous TV shows, including Saturday Kitchen, Lorraine and Ready, Steady, Cook.
