Care home staff 'broken' at shocking inspection

Clubworthy House in Launceston has been rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission.

A ONCE 'outstanding' care home in Cornwall has been formally rated 'inadequate', the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has said.

Clubworthy House, in Launceston, has been run by Nos Nom since 2008, caring for autistic people and people with learning disabilities.

It has now, however, been placed into special measures to protect its residents following an inspection in October.

Investigators found leaders at the home had "allowed a closed culture to develop where people weren't treated with dignity and respect", with allegations of residents being screamed and shouted at.

They found leaders did not ensure people’s emotional needs were always recognised or responded to appropriately, which on at least two occasions resulted in someone physically harming themselves.

Staff are said to have witnessed poor responses to people's distress but didn’t feel able to raise concerns, with one staff member describing feeling “completely broken” by their time working there.
