Westwood fashion house under fire for show in Riyadh
The Guardian
|October 15, 2025
Vivienne Westwood's granddaughter has said the brand's decision to headline Riyadh fashion week "does not align with the values or wishes" of the late designer.
The fashion house has defended the decision to show in Saudi Arabia this week alongside Stella McCartney as "a way to encourage dialogue" and "build understanding". It insisted its presence was not an endorsement of the regime.
The show falls in the week that the Vivienne Foundation, set up by Westwood three years before her death in 2022, releases a range of T-shirts priced at £150 with proceeds going in part to LGBTQ+ charities.
Last week, western comedians were condemned for performing in Saudi Arabia. Human Rights Watch (HRW) has described Saudi Arabia's human rights record as "abysmal".
