Tagliafico pounces to ask something extra of frustrated United

Manchester United unveiled a first ever tifo with the legend, "Never Gonna Stop", then were forced to continue into extra-time by a second-half collapse that gave up a two-nil lead dismally.

Ruben Amorim's men cruised courtesy of impressive strikes from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot in an opening half of dominant but after spurning opportunities to kill off Lyon, Paulo Fonseca's side took the tie into the extra half an hour due to Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico finishes after the break.

It could have been worse for United but for André Onana turning in the type of display that had been lacking in the opening leg and so, after Tolisso's late sending off, they headed for 30 more minutes.

With the host broadcaster's cameras fixed on him before kick-off Onana hoped to quieten the scrutiny via a far quieter night than last week's personal fiasco. The wish was granted, in the early phases, as bursts from Leny Yoro plus slick back-to-front football from Patrick Dorgu, Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte kept the ball away from his zone.
