Royal Mail-owned firm faces legal action over delivery drivers' rights

Dozens of delivery drivers are taking legal action against a Royal Mail-owned courier service that has classified them as not entitled to workers' rights.

The 46 drivers work around the clock making deliveries that include moving vital blood and tissue samples between NHS hospitals. They do not qualify for rights such as holiday pay and the minimum wage, however, because eCourier has classified them as self-employed.
Their case, due to be heard by an employment tribunal this year, claims the company has wrongly categorised them, and that several features of their engagement point to worker status.
