RAF fighters intercept Russian planes on Nato's eastern border

RAF fighter jets have intercepted two Russian aircraft flying close to Nato airspace over the Baltic.
The Ministry of Defence said two Typhoons were scrambled from Malbork airbase in Poland to intercept an Ilyushin Il-20M surveillance plane on Tuesday. Another two Typhoons were scrambled from the base on Thursday to intercept an unknown aircraft leaving Russian airspace around Kaliningrad.
RAF planes are being deployed to eastern Poland to work with Swedish air crews in defence of Nato's eastern flank.
The armed forces minister, Luke Pollard, said yesterday that the UK would be "unshakeable" in its commitment to the alliance.
