Plane crashes moments after take off from Southend airport

The Beechcraft B200 aircraft crashed at around 4pm and photos on social media showed it in flames with a tall, dark plume of smoke billowing from it. The number of casualties in the incident was unknown.

According to the flight-tracking service Flightradar24, the plane was bound for Lelystad. Operated by Zeusch Aviation, it was equipped with medical equipment for transporting patients.

The Dutch company specialises in medical evacuation services and transplant flights and runs private charters. It was unclear last night whether the flight was a medical evacuation or whether any patient was onboard at the time of the crash.

The twin-engined aircraft was thought to be 31 years old. The Beechcraft B200 can carry around 12 people, depending on its configuration.

John Johnson from Billericay was at Southend airport with his family at the time of the incident.
