Original Star Wars returns to big screen - just as it looked in 1977

A rare screening of the original 1977 cut of Star Wars, without director George Lucas's 1997 alterations, will be held in London this summer.
The version of the space opera in which Han Solo shoots first and Jabba the Hutt is only mentioned by name will be shown twice on the opening night of the British Film Institute's Film on Film festival on 12 June.
Though the movie's characters and then-cutting-edge effects launched a multibillion-dollar franchise, Lucas felt they could be augmented and improved by computer-generated imagery (CGI) in the 1990s.
As a result, the original trilogy of films has rarely been shown in public since the director released special editions of all three in 1997.
