Melvyn Bragg ends 27-year run as host of Radio 4's In Our Time

Melvyn Bragg said yesterday that he would be leaving the BBC Radio 4 programme In Our Time, which he has hosted for 27 years.
The show was launched in October 1998 after Bragg was asked to present a programme during what was known as "the death slot" because of its low Thursday morning audience figures.
In Our Time, which explores the characters, events and discoveries that have shaped our world, has proved extremely popular. It celebrated its 1,000th episode in 2023 and is one of the BBC's most listened-to on-demand programmes worldwide.
It also became the BBC's first podcast in 2004 and is one of the most popular ones among under-35s on BBC Sounds.
