Man who killed 10 in Austria 'was obsessive online shooter'

A gunman who killed 10 people at his former school in the Austrian city of Graz was an "obsessive online first-person shooter", according to police, who have given detailed information about how he had planned the attack.
The 21-year-old Austrian, who killed himself after the rampage on Tuesday, had spent much of his free time playing what police called "ego shooting" online games, in which participants virtually kill enemies. Police believe other online players had formed his main social contacts.
Among victims of the man, identified by the Austrian media as Arthur A, was one of his former teachers. Police said it was unknown if he had targeted her. The 59-year-old was killed along with six female and three male pupils aged between 14 and 17. Nine people, including a male teacher, were still in hospital yesterday but all were stable and the last two were due to leave intensive care.
