Golden Globes Hollywood awards season begins - but with no front runner

Another Hollywood awards season kicks off this weekend with the Golden Globes, the industry's glitziest yet most consistently troubled ceremony.
Nominations for the 82nd edition are led by films such as the Netflix musical Emilia Perez, period saga The Brutalist, Broadway blockbuster Wicked and Vatican thriller Conclave, in an unusually confused race that has yet to firm up clear frontrunners.
Last year was dominated by Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which took five prizes before going on to win the best picture Oscar.
In the season so far, Wicked has been named best film by the National Board of Review, while the Gotham awards gave the title to A Different Man; New York Film Critics Circle's prize went to The Brutalist and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association handed the title to Anora.
This week, Emilia Perez and Conclave led the Bafta longlists. The New York Times awards specialist Kyle Buchanan has called it "a season that doesn't appear to have an overwhelming sweeper" with "plenty of time for contenders to rise and fall".
On the television side, there are far surer things such as Shogun in the drama category and the Netflix breakout Baby Reindeer on the limited series side.
